The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, alongside some senior officers from Headquarters Nigerian Air Force (NAF),
on 3 September 2017, paid a condolence visit to the family of late NAF instructor pilot, Group Captain Adanu Ochai. Late Group Captain Ochai was the sole pilot on board the recently crashed NAF Air Beetle aircraft.
During the visit, prayers were said for the family of the Late Group Captain Ochai as well as for the repose of his soul. While speaking with Mrs Ochai, the wife of the late instructor pilot, Air Marshal Abubakar stated that Late Group Captain Ochai was a hero who died in the service of the nation while doing what he was passionate about. He added that late Adanu was not only good in flying but also trained several officers, who knew nothing about flying, to become the reliable NAF pilots of today. The late instructor pilot was thus said to have greatly contributed to the development of the NAF and the nation at large.
The CAS then assured the widow of the late senior officer that the NAF would never forget her husband’s enormous contributions, including the recent record graduation of pilots who completed the primary flying training while still being cadets at the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna. He also promised that the NAF would do everything possible to ensure that the welfare of Mrs Ochai and those of her children were well catered for. The CAS thereafter endorsed the condolence register, which had been opened in the late Group Captain Ochai’s official residence at NAF Base Kaduna before returning to Abuja.
