In an atmosphere devoid of pomp expected to usher a new dawn for Nigerians as exemplified in 2015,
the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), finally declared the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC winner of the just concluded election, with a total votes of15, 191, 847, against Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP who scored 12,853,162, emerging runners up.
While declaring Buhari winner, INEC’s chief returning officer, chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakub, said that the registered was 82,344,107, accredited voters was 92,364,209, total votes re cast was 28,614,190, total valid was 27,324,583 and rejected votes was 1,289,607.
He said: “That Muhammadu Buhari having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest votes is hereby declared the winner.”
Before the final declaration of the result early this morning (Wednesday), the PDP has vehemently opposed the outcome of the result with allegations of manipulation, harassment of its members and non declaration of its votes cast by its members.
