Nigeria’s apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has pledged to create 10 million jobs annually within the next 5 years.

CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emiefele, while rolling out the plans and programmes of government, said the initiative is part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve to create 100 million jobs in 10 years time.

While expressing confidence that the target will be met, he said China, India, Indonesia and other countries in the Asia, had achieved the same feat.

According to Emiefele, there will be increased intervention in the agriculture sector and credit access to the real sector of the economy.

He said: “The intervention will boost productivity through provision of quality farm inputs like seedlings, credit facility for farmers in crops such as rice, cassava, tomato, cotton, oil palm, poultry, fish, livestock and maize.

To achieve this goal, he said the banks will be expected to maintain a higher level of capital and liquid assests to avoid the likelihood of negative economic stress or crisis.
