FG to Deliver Affordable Houses by 2033-Minister

The Minister of State for Housing, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu, has reiterated federal government’s determination to deliver affordable houses to Nigerians by 2033

 

In a statement signed by Mr. Boade Akinola, Director, Press and Public Relations, which was made available to the media in Abuja, quoted the minister as saying:

“The inspection today being a weekend has further demonstrated that the federal government through the ministry of Works and Housing is serious in fulfilling the federal government’s promise of delivering affordable houses to Nigerians by the 2033”, he explained.

The Minister also promised that federal government would scale up the 100,000 housing target to 1 million per year, even as he promised that government would provide the enabling environment for investors to meet the housing target for Nigerians.

The disclosure was made over the weekend during the minister’s working visit to the Abuja Mass Housing Project in Zuba, an outskirt of Abuja, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Aliyu, reiterated government’s commitment to completing all on-going and abandoned projects across the country, adding: “From assessment, the project is about 75% completed and would be delivered very soon to meet the 20 million housing deficit in the country.”

Speaking further, the minister said government would scale up the 100,000 housing target to 1 million per year, adding that the government would provide the enabling environment for investors in order to meet the housing target for Nigerians.

The Project Manager of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Arc. Ibrahim Shuaibu, said the project was awarded in 2017, but works actually started in late2018.

The house types, according to him, consist of one bedroom of 22 blocks of flat of 352 units, 2 bedrooms of 33 blocks of 264 units, 3 bedrooms of 16block of flats of 128 units, 3 bedroom terrace of 5 block of 20 units duplex and 8 special units totaling of 764 units.

“There is also provision for internal roads, schools, shopping mall, and place of worship, Recreation Park, 15.00m collector road and 10.00m access road as the project.

“More than 65% payment has been made and hoped that the project would soon be delivered.” He said
