By Dayo Omoogun The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Governors Aminu Tambuwal, Abdullah Ganduje, Simon Lalong, Bala Muhammed of Sokoto, Kano, Plateau, and Bauchi States respectively; dismissing the appeals of the various opposition candidates and parties. In a unanimous judgement, the Supreme Court held that the evidence presented by the appellant against Tambuwal was of no value. It held that the appellant failed to prove his allegation of non-compliance with the electoral act and over-voting. In the case of Bauchi, the Supreme Court held that APC’s candidate, ex-governor Muhammed Abubakar failed to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt. The PDP candidate Abba Yusuf’s appeal against the election of Ganduje Abdullah was dismissed on the grounds that it is lacking in merit. The court held that the appellant failed to prove any case of irregularity both in the main election of March 9 and the supplementary election of March 23rd, 2019. Jeremiah Useni PDP Candidate’s appeal against the Governor, Simon Lalong was also struck out. The court upheld the findings of both the Election Tribunal and the Court of Appeal. The Apex Court also said that Useni failed to show how the various names of Simon Lalong facilitated his victory. All the four judgements delivered by the Supreme Court on Monday were unanimous decisions.
