The Venom of Religion, its Pangs and its Evil

By Olumide Goodness Adeyinka

This sure will not be a comfortable read for religious zealots, but will definitely be a spirit-searching adventure for minds that are free to experience the escape of the evil religion has meted on the people worldwide. I do not intend to appeal to the status quo of defense and solidarity with which certain of us infernally fight for what we do not know and slay for what we do not probe to know. Religion has its fang, its venom and its arrows. If it pierces your soul, death is imminent and life becomes exterminated. Religion has its sword, its spears and its club to smite and hack down the weak that always think they are strong. Quietly hiding in religion is the distrust for others, the exclusion principles and the reclusive preponderance of arguments that completely sings the song of superiority. May be my soul loathes religion, may be my heart now discovers that I do not need religion for her way is different from the WAY. Religion, the high drug of the soul of mankind that intrinsically deceives until man is lost. I speak against religion!

Oh! Man, let not the kisses of religion touch your mouth, avoid her love because the fragrance of her ointment is choking; virgins of the spirit runs to her at their own peril, the rich and the liars of life are friends of hers. Religion is dark not in complexion but in her secrecy, her lies are only revealed in the spectrum of great light. The spikenard of her myrrh sends out the aroma of death to trap the unsuspecting, the tip of her breasts are laid with the poison of the soul. Religion searches for her lover in the night of wisdom, she looks in the streets, in the squares and around the city of intellect to bring home one who longs for a place to hide. Religion finds its prey in the hearts of men who are ready to defend it. What a wise predator you are O religion! Billions are your prey!

Hey! Look around you, search for the masters of religions all beneath you, above you and see if indeed there is one who has avoided her sting? The grandeur of what she has to offer has swallowed men and women out of the piety and devotion of Godliness. Everyone now scampers for the gains of religion that subjugates others and determine their eternity outside the scope of Love and Grace from God. Ours is superior to theirs is the song of religion and theirs is evil is the lyrics of her music. The bigotry of religion and her dogmatic malfeasance is the death sentence that has consumed too many, those who don’t kill for her outrightly condemn others to get her applaud. Man finds a place of pride and self-concealment in the attritions of religion at the expense of total submission to the deity of God who bears the rule of judgment. The greatest evil of religion is that she denies your of privacy and innocence!

Merriam Webster defines religion as institutionalized system of worship or service in attitudes, beliefs and practices of God. It is a set of cause, principle or system of beliefs held to with ardor ad faith. That simple definition can be deceptive because it incorporates an article of deity in it – God. The evil of it is the systems of religion that has been institutionalized by man over the years. All that religion wants to achieve is to relate humanity to spirituality, and that is the undoing of the system itself. Man has never known the way back to spirituality! The public aspect to religion has robbed its adherents of their classic privacy. Everything about religion is organized like behaviours, clerical hierarchies, meetings, congregations, venerations, memberships etc. In all of the organized system of religion, emphasis is placed on beliefs and not practice. Subjective congregational activities instead of objective personal experience are the fulcrum upon which religion is built.

Islam teaches five activities (pillars) that must be performed, Prophet Mohammed must be believed and recognized, and Jesus Christ must be denied as the Son of God and only recognized as a prophet in order to be accepted into the membership of that religion. The wisdom of that belief and structure is to exclude formally those who do not trust that standard. The exclusive preserve is not hinged on any personal resume of piety, humility, social justice, fairness or consideration of others. What Prophet Mohammed never taught is emphasis on himself. Since I am not a Muslim I will not speak much on the religion of Islam.

Some people are struggling so hard to deny Christianity as a religion. According to them Christianity is a Way of life. The fault in that argument is that at no time was Christianity a definition of the Way Christ laid for us as His followers. Christianity has its own systems and man-made order and mannerisms with which memberships are formed. Christianity has its own inculcated institutions of laity and clergy, its own congregational activities that are subjective and its own exclusive phenomenal doctrines that judges. It has its own engaging language of attrition that exclude others and condemn them. Where in the world does the name CHRISTIANITY comes from, other than from the pagans and the heathens of Antioch, who by the way have their own religions of gods. The word “Christians” from which Christianity derives was a mockery language engaged to ridicule the Disciples of Christ. Prior to the new name the Church called themselves “The Way”. Popular demand and the need to be competitive in the world clearly explain the adoption of the catchphrase “Christianity”. What Jesus taught them was The Way, The Truth and The Life.

Why will Christianity not be a religion when its origin was from the need to represent the personal experiential testimonies of its practitioners with a common word to describe their beliefs, just like the followers of early Philosophers preceding Jesus Christ were called by the name of their master. Christianity’s spread through the Roman Empire marked the end of Hellenistic philosophy and brought in the Medieval philosophy, the same way the Arab Empire’s spread of Islam ended the Old Iranian philosophy and ushered in the Early Islamic philosophy. Both philosophies are now known and defended by Western philosophy and Eastern philosophy (I recommend you read my article on East/West Indoctrination and World Divide).

I can describe myself as a Christian because that will be the best way to give you understanding of who I am, but I can also look you in the face if you have knowledge and tell you I am not in Christianity. If following Christ makes me a Christian so be it, but please do not complicate my life with the religiosity of the system.

Christianity is a religion that divides, that condemns and excludes. The complexities of its multi-draconian doctrines have kept the body of Christ so divided, the language of its empty superiority has condemned too many and the lust of its self-righteousness has excludes those Christ actually came to save. The pride of Christianity is only the Christ in its spellings but outside that there is no LOVE in its direction and no faith or grace in its width. Christianity tells you who to love, who to marry, who to befriend, what to wear and who to avoid. It is a religion of the hirelings, the charlatans and the hijackers of true faith to obfuscate the confused and the simple and enrich themselves in the big trade and commerce of that religion. Think about this guys, the most religious societies of the world are the most unjust, the most depraved and most vile societies.

It is now a common knowledge that the only mandate the religion of Christianity pursues is the hate for Islam and vice versa. Both popular religions are at each other’s throat, and the last man standing will be Religion.

As virulent as religion is, she has no life of her own. Religion borrows the life of her lovers to live.

The language and song of Christianity is “come out from among them” and others like “do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers”. If only we know what these means then we will understand Christ has not asked us to run away from those He frequents when here in the world. He avoided and cursed the religious people of His time (Judaism was given by God, but became a curse to the people when it became a religion that exclude other humans) but He still went about healing the sick and those who are oppressed of the devil. They were not your day-to-day religious people.

Take this religion away and embrace The Way, The Truth and The Life. Jesus Christ is the savior of humanity.
