President Muhammadu Buhari’s numero uno and arrow head in his kitchen cabinet and inner caucus, Mallam Abba Kyari, on Friday gave up the ghost, arising from complications in COVID-19 pandemic.
Early in March and upon testing positive to the respiratory disease, Kyari, who was in 80s was taken to a private medical facility for treatment.
His treatment which was shrouded in secrecy raised hairs and concerns across communities.
Reports had it that he was flown to a private medic centre in Lagos where medical experts battled to save his life.
His status in presidency was so overwhelming that Kyari was not allowed to be on self isolation with several positive patients receiving treatment in government facility.
It is not exactly clear where Kyari got infected with the virus, but one of his last known trips was across Europe and Germany where he led a high government delegation to Siemen, an electricity conglomerate to negotiate the deal on their engagement to revive Nigeria’s ailing power supply.
Watchers of the power industry considered this as an overdrive into the sector where experts both in public and private sectors abound.
While tongues have wagging on Kyari’s state of health and his whereabout, presidency on Friday through a statement signed by Mr. Femi Adesina, announced the demise of the Chief of Staff to the federal government.
Presidency, said it regrets the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.
In the terse statement, Adesina said: “The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.
“May God accept his soul.”
