The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NDC), Mrs. Abike Dabiri Erewa, has debunked a video circulating
on social media of Ms Joy Emovon, a Nigerian mother of 3, that she was deported from German under grueling conditions with her children.
She said in a statement made available to SHARPEDGENEWS, on Wednesday that the commission wishes to set the records straight on a video circulating on social media of one Ms. Joy Emovon, who claimed to have been deported from Germany under grueling conditions, along with her three children
After thorough investigation by the commission, she said facts emerged that Ms. Joy Emovon, actually lived in Italy for years where she had a child.
She was subsequently deported from Italy, she added and later relocated to Switzerland where she had another child, from Switzerland she moved back to Italy, then subsequently to Germany where she had another child and lived for a few years.
“Neither She nor her kids are German citizens, as German law does not automatically confer citizenship on foreigners born in Germany.”
Erewa said Emovon applied for asylum status in Germany and was denied, with the denial of her asylum, continuous stay in Germany became virtually impossible, adding that she then took advantage of the IOM voluntary assistance program which encourages irregular migrants to return to their countries, with a financial support of between (€1000 – €2000).
According to Erewa, based on that decision, she was given an emergency travel certificate from the Nigerian embassy and subsequently put on a flight back to Nigeria.
The Chairperson, while debunking Emovon’s claims, explained that her hands and legs were handcuffed are not true.
She said: “While we sympathize with Ms Emovon’s plight particularly her three children, it is important to put out the facts so as not to mislead the public.
“We continue to appeal to Nigerians to obey the laws of other lands while government continues to provide an enabling environment for its citizens.”
