The original inhabitants of the FCT, have called on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to establish Gubernatorial and State Assembly positions in the Federal Capital Territory.
This is contained in a statement by the chairman, Abuja Socio Cultural and Advocates for Social Development Society for the Natives, ATTACHI, Mr Bitrus Laurence Garki.
According to the statement it was a sober occasion for the residents of the FCT especially the indigenous people who are disenfranchised in a day when people in other states in the federation have the privilege to exercise their franchise by casting their votes to elect their Governors and State legislators.
The statement said that the event was given consideration for a number of reasons which the Youths consider very necessary to draw the attention of the President and Minister of FCT for the disenfranchisement of the entire residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
“The FCT can only cast their votes for the President and Federal Legislatures creating adverse impact of the discriminatory policy and the deprivation of the right of franchise which can only better be imagined.
“The indigenous people have been short-changed and the original inhabitants hopelessly wallow in abject poverty as the FCT Policies on administration have been inconsistent and where any is being implemented, they have been carried out with impunity thereby putting the future of the inhabitants in a state of uncertainty and indeed jeopardy”.
According to the statement, the FCT residents want to use this opportunity to appeal to the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the National Assembly to strengthen the rule of law, inclusiveness, good governance and international best practices.
