The BEST Centre of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) on Thursday in Abuja graduated 11 students on office administrator.

The event took place at the 3rd quarter EXCO meeting of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).

Dr Tinuke Temitope, Director of ACCI-BEST Centre said that the training provided the graduating students with necessary knowledge to fit into the working environment as administrators.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Office Administration Training project is a SEQUA supported project in collaboration with the ACCI.

According to Temitope, the one year dual vocational training in office administration was in line with the developed national occupational standard that combined classroom-based learning with practical industry experience.

She said that it was geared toward giving trainees a head start into employment by acquiring the required technical knowledge and experience.

Temitope said that the training would address complaints from the private sector that trainees from educational systems are not fitting into the working environment.

“We have always had this complaint from the private sector that these trainees coming out of the Nigerian educational system or training institutions are not fitting into the working environment.

“So, we started with the review of different sectors.

“Today we are glad that in 2022 we started the training for office administrators and now they are fully certified.

“And we also got approval from the from the National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB) that issued them level four of the National Skills Qualification Framework.

“This means they are equivalent to National Diploma,’’ she said.

Temitope said that the training also upgraded participants with Senior School Certificate and primary school certificate but with working experience in public organisations.

“Now their skills have been upgraded, they can fit into any office as an administrator,’’ she said.

While emphasising that the employability of young Nigerians would improve significantly by the approach, Temitope said that participants would have the tools to contribute effectively to smooth operations of any office setting.

She said that the participants were taken through basic office procedures to advanced communication and organisational skills designed to progressively build students capabilities.

According to Temitope, participants will be able to confidently perform common office tasks with efficiency and accuracy.

“They can also communicate professionally in various settings,’’ she said.

On his part the National President of NACCIMA, Otumba Dele Oye, urged the graduating students to make efficient use of the opportunity provided by the training.

Oye urged them to be good ambassadors and said that positive feedbacks from their places of work would facilitate more opportunities for more Nigerians to participate in the programme.

One of the graduating students, Cyril Emmanuel, described the training as impactful.

“They taught us a lot on how to utilise office software and tools effectively and prioritise tasks and manage time more efficiently.

“We were also taught how to collaborate within a team-oriented environment as well as how to apply problem-solving techniques to address challenges.

“More so, to demonstrate ethical conduct and professionalism.

“By receiving these skills, the project has prepared us for successful careers in office administration and contribute to our personal and professional growth,’’ Emmanuel said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
