ACN’s Call for Okupe’s Sack Irresponsible, Hypocritical – SouthWest PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West has described call by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) for the sack of Dr. Doyin Okupe, Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan as irresponsible and hypocritical, saying; “as we have maintained before, a party of fraudsters, certificate forgers, ex-convicts, perjurers and money launderers like the ACN does not have the required moral standing to talk on corruption or any crime in Nigeria.”

PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary, Hon. Kayode Babade said in a statement issued in Ibadan today that “the ACN must first fumigate its own house to get rid of grossly corrupt and criminal minded elements in its fold before seeking to clean other peoples’ house.”

The PDP maintained that it was laughable that the ACN that kept silent over the trial of the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, who was accused of stealing over N7 billion belonging to the House and is standing trial before a Federal High Court in Lagos for stealing and laundering N500 million, can be asking Mr President to sack Dr. Okupe over an unsubstantiated allegation of fraud.

“Today, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji is standing trial for alleged stealing and laundering of N500 million,” the statement read.

“In spite of this, he still preside over the affairs of the House and the hypocrites in the ACN have not deemed it necessary to ask the Speaker to resign or step aside until the conclusion of his criminal trial.

“Is the loudmouth in the ACN also unaware of the conviction of the House of Representatives Minority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila by the Sureme Court of Georgia, United States of America for defrauding his client of $25,000?

“What moral rights does a party whose leader in the House of Representatives is an ex-convict to call for the sack of anyone?

“Therefore, call for the sack of Dr. Okupe is irresponsible, hypocritical and nonsensical, and it has therefore become necessary that we once again tell these bunch of hypocrites in the ACN to stop assaulting the sensibilities of Nigerians by playing ostrich to criminal matters involving their party and making noise of less important matters affecting other parties.”
