Activist urges Buhari to intervene in NABDA’s appointments

A human rights activist, Chief Oyo Orji, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to call Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, Director-General of the National Biotechnology Department Agency (NABDA) to stop victimizing one Mrs Magdalene Iseghohimen, a director and staff of the agency.

The activist who made the call in a statement issued in Abuja, said there was need to do the right thing to enable peaceful coexistence. 

Orji, who is also a barrister, called on the Minister of of Science and Technology to wade into the issue, as it could lead to public unrest and breach of public peace.

According to him, some staff of the agency who were allegedly being sponsored to forcefully and illegally take over the seat of Iseghohimen as the Director Human Resources, had been writing fictitious and unscrupulous petitions against her.

He added that most the documents attached to the petitions were fake after he wrote to the agency to certify the documents and they couldn’t.

“Section 3 and 4 of the Public Service Rules” stated that there are laid down measures and  procedures that must be followed  if you want to interdict a public servant.

“My applicant was arrested by ICPC and detained for 3 days without bail application even when she produced directors and permanent secretary for bail, they refused”.

According to Orji, he claimed that the DG- NABDA did not maintain a Statusco Order by the Federal High Court of Nigeria, in the Abuja Judicial Division Holden at Abuja.

Orji also appealed to the Federal Government and Minister of Science and Technology to do the needful to scrutinize those they appoint as DG National Biotechnology Development Agency -NABDA

He also called on the federal government to always look for competent people that would lead public offices and upload the laws in the Constitution which thier Services are governed under the public service rules. 

He further stated that public Officers are under the protection of Public Service rules, as such, the rules must be upheld.

He also appealed to the media to investigate into the matter and disseminate the right information educatively. (NAN)
