By Jinbonaraye Karibo-Nelson

The well deserved victory of Alhaji Murtala Hamman-yero Nyako of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on February 4, 2012 Governorship election in

Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria is a victory for good governance.

Admiral Nyako,(rtd), GCON,CFR, rcds, D. Agric (H.C) a Graduate of the prestigious Britannia  Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, England, a former Deputy Chief  of Defense Staff, Chief of Naval Staff and Military Governor of Old Niger State; had also held numerous appointment in Command level both at sea and ashore notably, Flag Officer Commanding Western  Naval Command ( WNC), Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Chief of Naval Operations at the Naval Headquarter and Commanding Officer, CO of  the Nigerian Navy flagship, NNS Aradu, a guided missile frigate built in former West-Germany ordered by the first democratic elected government of Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, elder statesman and Patriot.

Governor Nyako, during his tenure as a Naval Chief in the early 90’s, the Naval fleet were seaworthy, effectively patrolling the territorial waters, operations in ECOMOG Peace  keeping mission in West African states of  Liberia during the brutal civil-war, discipline and welfare of the Officers and Ratings of the Nigerian Navy was his priority to the core and personnel  performed their assigned duties.

His Excellency, Governor Nyako, fondly called Alhaji was a notable Jewel, because of his goodwill and impeccable record of charity and has been an unbiased democrat; free from ethnic political approach since his first years in Government House.

Alhaji on assumption of office in May 2007 as a democratically elected governor of Adamawa State he had provided meaningful development for the masses and he has remained steadfast in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the largest Democratic Party in Africa, unlike his contemporaries who are prostitutes on the political platform, represents true democracy in the North in contemporary times.

Since the inception of democratic governance, he embraces modern civilization, not sentimental and champion in regional conservative politics. These track records that had made the electorates voted him into second term to the Glory of God.

Why  I choose to write about His Excellency, is that for the past two decades I have  been following his stewardship as a Military and democratic leader. Sincere and intelligent administrator, he preferred being a democrat; peoples servant.

Overtime, what the electorates did by voting Nyako had shown that he has been performing excellently as the Executive Governor of the state and projects that were hitherto abandoned by government are all completed as such deserves the another time in office to consolidates the achievements as he has recorded since he assumed the saddle of power.

Alhaji, a man of destiny blessed with a character that was impeccable and with deep rooted selfless service to the society. He recognized his roles both as a servant and maker of History and received several awards for excellence and governance. Thus was never a surprise to those who know his quality.

Admiral Murtala Nyako, a devout Moslem, farmer, is the President of the Horticultural Cross Growers Association of Nigeria, The practicing farmers Association, and the Apex farmers Association of Nigeria, and Hausa-Fulani from the ruling Chieftaincy humbly family of late Alhaji Hamman-Yero and Hajiya Maryam Daso both of blessed memory was born in 27 August 1943 in Mayo- Belwa local government area of Adamawa State.

Again, I congratulate His Excellency, an Admiral of the Adamawa fleet and the good people of Adamawa State for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Governorship election by voting a selfless, visionary, dedicated and commitment to his goals like our beloved visionary and charismatic President Dr Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Mainasara Jonathan, GCFR, by his election victory is a testimony to this gesture.

In all this, one thing is clear that power belongs to God Almighty and I will conclude by advising that politicians who are double-edged sword and export ethnicity to promote their goals did not want the unity of the nation, but should emulate Admiral Nyako for continued peace, good governance and development and he also promised to justify the confidence reposed in him saying he would not disappoint the masses.

We pray that Almighty God will continue to grant Governor Nyako, Grace, wisdom and courage to carry out   his good work during his second tenure as he sails to the greater height.
