AFCON 2023: Abidjan agog as Nigerian, Ivorian fans engage in street party

The streets of Cote d’Ivoire’s commercial capital, Abidjan, was agog on Thursday as both Ivorian and Nigerian fans gyrated and bantered ahead of the Super Eagles vs Cote d’Ivoire AFCON match.

Sharpedgenews reports that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Cote d’ivoire on Thursday in their second Group A duel, in the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpe, Abidjan.

A cross section of fans who spoke to Sharpedgenews described the match as the finals before finals, given the pedigree of both teams as football super powers in Africa.

Koussi Toure, an Ivorian fan told newsmen in french and a smattering of English that Cote d’Ivoire will surely win the match because they have a good team and home support.

“Cote d’Ivoire is my home and I am very happy to witness the match.

“I predict that Cote d’Ivoire will defeat Nigeria by 2-0.

“I know Nigeria is also a big team with great players like Osimhen, but we’ll be too strong for them,” Toure said.

For Abdulbasit Rauf, a Nigerian fan resident in Abidjan, Nigeria will carry the day even with the home support for Cote d’Ivoire.

“I am a Nigerian born here in Abidjan and I love the Super Eagles.

“I predict Nigeria will win by 2-0,” Rauf said.

Similarly, Tony Chukwuebuka, a Nigerian who owns a provision shop in Abidjan said Nigerians would be going all out to cheer the Super Eagles to victory.

“We’ll be going to support our Super Eagles and I predict Nigeria will win 2-1 over Cote d’Ivoire,” Chukwuebuka said.

Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpe, Abidjan.
