Akwa Ibom e-Library to Commence Full Operations Soon

The recently commissioned Akwa Ibom State e-Library will soon be fully opened to the public, even as a dynamic website that is fully functional with modules is already up and running.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications Mr. Aniekan Umanah told reporters in Uyo that the Patron Registration is available to both online and On-site readers; while the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) links to world e-library and other e-resource websites

The Information boss revealed that the current official website address of the library is www.ibomelibrary.org, maintaining also that the Ibom e-Library has e-resources that can only be accessed onsite (intranet) within the facility of the Library.

A top level country domain website  www.ibomelibrary.gov.ng, according to the commissioner is being processed, and this will ensure that all components of the library are easily accessed by registered users from all parts of the world, positing that as a dynamic resource medium, more content and functionality can be integrated to the website as the need arises.

Similarly, the Principal Consultant at the e-Library Prof Felicia Etim said that to have access to the facilities of the e-library both online and on-site users must first register and be issued with access-card or account details with which they can then access the e-resources physically or go online.

She explained further that after acquiring the access card, the user should go online, click on My Account, then Register and Log In, “Search for e-resources of your choice or topic, view, print or download depending on your subscription level.”

Prof Etim also informed library users that experimental websites like www.akselibrary.org and www.akselibrary.org.ng were not valid for access to the e-library.

Modalities for payments and account details, she explained, are currently being worked out and added that the date for the full opening of the library will be announced next month
