Alarming Suicide Rate: FG Clamps Down, Restricts Use of Snipper

The Director, Veterinary Medicine and Allied Products, of the National Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Bukar Usman,

has announced the restrictions of sale and use of the insecticide killer product called sniper at homes.

Usman, who spoke at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, yesterday, said NAFDAC has ordered that the supply, sale and use of the chemical product should stop forthwith in the open market and supermarket.

However, he added that the directive was not an outright ban but restrictions of it’s use and availability to farms explaining that herbicides meant for farms should not be used at homes.

Across Nigeria, especially at tertiary institute, youths have found easy way to death using the product in an uncontrollable manner to stuff their lives.

The suicide rate among youths using snipper has called for serious concern among clergy men, parents and government.

The director added: “There are appropriate products for the control of mosquitoes and other household pest.
