Mr Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on Tuesday distributed agro-chemical products, farm inputs, among others, to 120 farmers selected from the 12 wards in area council.
The chairman gave the donation at the inauguration of the 2023 farming season in AMAC tagged “Agricultural Revolution Starts Now”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that ten farmers each from the 12 wards went home with sack spraying machines, assorted herbicides, among other agricultural tools.
The event also witnessed two extension agents going home with brand new motorcycles to aid distribution of agricultural products in their various communities.
Maikalangu said that the donation is part of his committment to fulfilling his campaign promise of reducing the economic hardship experienced by his people.
He called on the beneficiaries to resist the temptation of selling the products, while assuring that the exercise would be a continuous one.
“It is necessary to note that every farmer is qualified but for financial contraints, we shall continue to reach out to many farmers as possible in the next batches of our farmer-empowernment schemes.
“For the beneficiaries, I wish to advise you never to contemplate on selling them for financial gains but make use of the implements so as to achieve the desired result,” he said.
For his part, Mr Emmanuel Danladi, Sarkin Noma, AMAC, appreciated the chairman for the donation, while assuring of the farmers determination to making farm produce available in the council.
Mr Solomon Thomas, an extension agent with AMAC and a recipient of a motorcycle, appreciated the chairman for the donation.
“I am very happy for this donation because one of the challenge our farmers have been having is availability of farm inputs and another challenge we have been facing is transportation challenge.
“With this, we will be able to reach out to the farmers with new farming innovations and to carry out our other duties effectively,” he said.
