…As Forum elects executive members, invokes Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu’s Court Affidavit
Chairman, Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, Senator Dr Ighoyota Amori, has call on the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, to immediately conduct by-election to fill the vacant seat in the constituency, occasioned by the unlawful defection of Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Senator Amori made the call on Thursday at the inaugural meeting of the Leaders of Ethiope Federal Constituency in Asaba, the state capital, citing Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu’s breach of relevant constitutional provisions, and also relying on the Court Affidavit deposed to by her, wherein she solemnly agreed to vacate PDP seat at the House of Representatives upon defection to another political party.
It will be recalled that Hon Erhiatake, recently defected from PDP to APC citing flimsy excuses and nonexistent division within the party, ignoring the grave consequences of her illogical decision.
Senator Amori berated Hon Ibori for bitting the fingers that feed her, and for double dealing between PDP and the APC which resulted in her defection, assuring that the party and leaders in Ethiope Federal Constituency shall do the needful to ensure that a by-election is conducted by INEC to fill the vacant seat.
Amori and other leaders of the Forum averred that Hon Erhiatake cannot eat her cake and have it, knowing fully well that she deposed to a valid Court Affidavit to vacant PDP seat at House of Representatives upon defection, a legal document that speaks for itself, interpreted literally, and relied upon by party PDP.
The Ethiope Federal Constituency leaders assured that PDP will win the governorship and other elective positions in the state, come 2027, pointing out that the state governor and leader of PDP in the state, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has performed credibly well since assumption of office, and shall sustain the tempo till May 29, 2031, by the grace of God.
“Today, we had the inaugural meeting of Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Leaders Forum, and we deliberated on state and party issues.
“We also elected executive members of the Forum, and resolved to reclaim the party’s vacant seat at the House of Representatives, occasioned by the defection of Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu from PDP to APC.
“We are in Court over her defection in accordance with constitutional provisions, and shall also rely on the valid Court Affidavit deposed to by Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, wherein she solemnly agreed to vacant her seat whenever she defects to another political party.
“She has defected and the PDP seat at the House of Representatives is now vacant as far as our party is concerned. Whatever functions or duties she’s currently performing after her defection goes to no issue, null and void. She is now a former federal lawmaker. The Court Affidavit she deposed to speaks for itself.
“Delta is PDP, and PDP is Delta since 1999. The party’s supremacy in the state is unquestionable. Come 2027, PDP shall win the governorship and other elections in the state. APC Delta only exist on social media platforms in the State.
“Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu defection to APC Delta is grossly inconsequential, an exercise in futility because the future of her political career is now blurred and colourless.
“PDP made her what she is today politically, and leaders of Ethiope Federal Constituency and the party are determined to prove to Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu that Delta State is a PDP stronghold,” Chief Amori added.
