Another Akala’s Commissioner, Kola Balogun, Wife in ICPC’s Net

More damning revelations have continue to pour in on the misappropriation of several billions in public funds allegedly perpetrated by the administration of former Oyo Governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has said that it had received the approval of a High Court in the State to prosecute a commissioner, Mr. Kola Balogun, who served under the former government.

Kola Balogun, the former Commissioner for Works and Housing is being tried for misappropriation of public fund during his tenure as the helmsman of Ministry of Works and Housing.

The anti-corruption body had sought the approval of the court to arraign Dr Kola Balogun, under the Administration of Governor Alao Akala alongside his wife, Gbonjuola Balogun for misappropriation of public fund.

The case started in 2007 when ICPC filed charges against Gbonjubola Balogun for having an indirect private interest in a contract emanating from a government office while being a public officer; and her husband Kola Balogun for abetting his wife, Gbonjuola Balogun.

Sharpedgenews.com gathered that the duo filed 4 preliminary applications seeking to quash the charges, and an Order of Court admitting the accused persons to bail, among others.

The Court averred that the two accused have explanations to make in their trial with respect to the transaction upon which they stand trial.

According to the Court the charges are competent in law and that a prima facie case has been established against the accused persons.

The Court then dismissed the applications to quash the charges against the two accused persons as lacking in merit; and adjourned the matter to 1st December 2011 for arraignment.
