Mr Sule Abdulaziz, Managing Director, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the anti-corruption unit will enhance transparency within the company’s operations.
Abdulaziz, who was represented by Mrs Abiodun Afolabi, Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, spoke at the inauguration of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the TCN.
He said that the company would identify potential risks and vulnerabilicorruptis in the system.
He said that the inaguration of the ACTU would not only prevent corruption but will also allow TCN to address inefficiencies that may be hindering its ability to meet the growing demands of the power sector.
According to him, the ACTU will serve as a strategic tool in fostering that trust, ensuring that operations remaased transparent and free from any forms of malpractice.
”Furthermore, the ACTU will serve as a point of reference for ethics and compliance across the organisation.
”It will provide guidance on best practices and help ensure that our decision-making processes are aligned with TCN’s vision of accountability and integrity.
”This, in turn, will strengthen the public’s confidence in our ability to deliver on our mandate effectively and ethically,” he said.
Abdulaziz also said that the establishment of the ACTU would be instrumental to advancing TCN’s goals as a company committed to delivering power efficiently to the Nigerian people.
”To the members of the ACTU, I want to use this opportunity to remind you that the task ahead is significant. Your role in this unit is pivotal to the success of TCN’s broader mission.
”As you take on this responsibility, you are not only tasked with preventing corruption but also with promoting a culture of accountability that will resonate across the organisation.
”You are the stewards of integrity, and I urge you to carry out your duties with diligence, fairness, and impartiality.
”I must express my sincere gratitude to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) particularly its chairman and his entire team for their continued support, ”he said.
Mr Olugbenga Ajiboye, Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider (TSP) said that the leadership of TCN was fully committed to providing the necessary resources and support for the effective functioning of the ACTU.
Ajiboye said that the purpose of setting up ACTU was not to witch-hunt anybody but to work together and achieve a robust TCN.
On his part, Mr Musa Aliyu, the Chairman, ICPC said that the ACTU was an initiative of the commission approved by the Federal Government to serve as an in-house check mechanism for corruption prevention.
Aliyu, represented by Mr Olusegun Adigun, Director, System Studies and Review, said that the ACTU was in line with global best practices of building strong institutions and entrenching good governance in the fight against Corruption.

He said that the ACTU complemented the ICPC in building strong institutions and fostering principles of accountability and transparency in government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAS).
Aliyu said that TCN had the vision of being one of the leading electricity transmission companies in the world.
“Therefore, it has the duty of not only being alive to its responsibility, but must also ensure that members are diligent, responsive and dedicated to their duties.
”The ACTU will serve as a veritable tool in the achievement of this responsibility if allowed to effectively discharge its functions.
”Therefore, I must commend the Managing Director for his Initiative and support for the inauguration,” he said.
The chairman of ACTU, Mrs Bembo Erakevwe, said that members of ACTU were grateful to the management of TCN for the confidence reposed on them to serve.
Erakevwe said that the members of ACTU would establish systems that will promote accountability and ethical conduct.(NAN
