The APC has announced the commencement of its membership registration and revalidation exercise after an initial confusion due to a notice
in the media space early Sunday ascribed to the Secretary to the CECPC Senator John Akpanudoedehe which suggested that the exercise had been postponed indefinitely.
The party later on the same Sunday in a statement signed by the same Akpanudoedehe washed its hands off the earlier notice saying the exercise is to commence as scheduled.
It then went on to provide a timetable which however showed a slight disparity with the claim as the membership registration exercise proper now takes off on February 2 and ends on 16th February, 2021.
The party stated “As earlier announced, the CECPC has approved the constitution of State Membership Registration Committees for the Party’s nationwide membership registration, revalidation and update exercise. This will be followed by a train-the-trainer workshop.”
The detailed timetable shows that constitution and inauguration of State registration committees as well training of the personnel will commence Monday 25th to Wednesday 27th January, 2021. Distribution of registration materials and gadgets to the various centres will follow from Thursday 28th January to 1st February, 2021. This will then be followed by the registration, revalidation and update proper for two weeks from February 2 to Feb16.
Thereafter sorting and forwarding of materials will commence on Wednesday 17 February while appeals or complaints will be heard from Sunday 21st to Friday 26th of February. From 27 February to March1, the new register will be displayed at the various wards and LG offices and forwarded to the National Secretariat.
The exercise will be rounded off with submission of report to the CECPC from 2nd March to 8th of March.
In the meantime the Edo State Chapter of the party has kicked against the appointment of Senator Domingo Obende who represented the Edo North Senatorial District at the 7th Senate as the Chairman of the Registration committee for Nigerians State citing his alleged anti- party activities in the run- up to the Edo 2020 gubernatorial elections as ground for it’s objection.
In separate letters signed by the State Chairman,Sergeant Imuse and a chieftain of the party, Chief Lucky Imasuen, they called on the National leadership to withdraw the appointment and name someone else in his place.
It will be recalled that this exercise was originally slated for December last year but was postponed deference you to the Yuletide season and the Christmas celebration.At the time, the party had announced that the exercise would begin in the second week of the new year but it also failed to take off until now.
