A one billion naira governorship ticket money for the Kogi State Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) paid by the state’s two-time former governor, Mr. Abubakar Audu, is now rocking the piece and the credibility of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu –led party.
Sources told sharpedgenews.com at the weekend that former Governor Audu Abubakar, a well-known wife-beater and public fund embezzler extra-ordinary, allegedly paid an eye-popping one billion naira to pick the ACN governorship ticket in Kogi State, a development that was allegedly kept secret from the generality of the members of the party. The huge sum has now sparked a raging debate on the degree of transparency within the ACN.
Sources pleading anonymity because of fear of harm from Audu’s well-known ruthless hirelings said that both the national and Kogi State leaderships of ANC benefited from the big lodgment from Audu.
Although our sources could not ascertain the identity of the ACN national leaders who took in the money, they insisted that the payment was meant to be an inducement to compromise the process of choosing a flag bearer for ACN, in Kogi State, thus short-changing other hopefuls who got in the race before Audu, whose greatest flaw is his own divided home: his former wife, Mrs. Aisha Audu , is also a candidate in the coming polls.
The choice of Audu is described as a terrible exposure of ACN’s underbelly as a party deficit in integrity, principle and transparency.
ACN critics say the fact that no credible primary was held to choose Audu also accentuated the accusation of a non-transparent process and poor record of internal democracy.
The lack of principle accusation was buttressed by the hasty manner in which Audu’s money was accepted without holding him accountable for alleged past sins of attacking journalists and civil activists, along with wife battery and massive looting of funds.
“ACN is also being rubbished as a party that parades moral hypocrisy by pretending to oppose corruption and ineptitude while at the same time taking looted funds to sell tickets for elective posts to a flawed personality like Audu Abubakar” , says one of our sources.
Audu Abubakar often caves to megalomaniac urges. He has been governor of Kogi State twice, which is the constitutional maximum duration allowed any individual in Nigeria. But he advanced serious arguments on how he was short-circuited as governor in the failed dyarchical rule led by Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida till 1993. He is said to have a list of enemies who he intends to finish-off once given victory in the next few weeks. His former wife is feared to be one such enemy. And for a man who has marked his wife and children as enemies, the rest would be a bloody war against anybody whatsoever.
