The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has concluded the distribution of food items donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno.
The agency disclosed this in a statement signed by Mr Manzo Ezekiel, Head of the agency’s press unit, on Wednesday.
Ezekiel said that the Saudi Arabian based humanitarian agency, donated the food items which were distributed to no fewer than 16,000 IDPs households.
According to him, the distribution was done by NEMA in collaboration with the Borno State Emergency Management Agency at eight camps and host communities.
The camps and communities include El-Miskin, Doro, Asheri, Shuwari, Nganzai, Muna Kumbori, Gongulon, Madinatu 1 and Madinatu 2.
“The relief items distribution was inaugurated by the Governor of Borno, Prof. Babagana Zulum and the Director-General of NEMA, Mr Mustapha Ahmed, on Dec. 6, at the El-Miskin Camp.
“The Director, Planning, Research and Forecasting of the agency, Hajiya Fatima Kasim, coordinated the food distribution which were carried out in two cycles in Dec. 2022 and in early Jan.
“Kasim said that each of the 16,000 IDPs households were given a total of 59.8kg basket of food items comprising of 25kg of rice; 25kg of beans; 4kg of Mass Vita Flour; 2kg of tomato paste; 2 litres of groundnut oil; 1kg of salt and 0.8kg of seasoning cubes,” he said.
Malam Mukhtar Umar, an IDP living in Doro Camp, appreciated the Centre and the federal government for the donation.
Another Beneficiary at the Asheri Camp, Malam Mohammed Lawan, expressed his gratitude over the food items given to him, while appreciating the agency for the orderly distribution of the items.
