The Gombe State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has warned it’s members to beware of a clandestine and unauthorized meeting planned to be held in the State by individuals who are neither recognized members of the party nor hold any position within its structure.
Engineer Abdulkadir M Kumo, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the State SDP Chairman, Comrade Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, cautioned the party members through a statement sent to newsmen in Gombe.
According to Engineer Abdulkadir, intelligence gathered indicated that some individuals intend to meet under false pretenses to celebrate the fake and self-declared appointment of Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe as National Deputy Chairman (North) of the SDP.
The statement said, “Let it be reiterated in strong terms: the Social Democratic Party did not issue, approve, or recognize such an appointment. It is fake, illegitimate, and should be disregarded entirely”.
It stated also that, “for the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe is not a registered member of the SDP. Available party records shows that he was last affiliated with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during the previous general elections.
“There is no documentation or official communication indicating his return to the SDP, and as such, he lacks any standing within our party”, Engineer Abdulkadir stressed.
The statement emphasized that, “it is important to state that the alleged convener of this meeting, Musa Maccido, formally exited the party in 2024, while Rev. John Nwarke, another individual associated with the gathering, left the SDP since 2022 after our national convention.
“These individuals, and others involved in this charade, are not recognized members of our party. Their actions are therefore null, void, and politically mischievous”, it reiterated.
The statement expressed it’s conviction that the planned meeting is a desperate move and part of a broader agenda orchestrated by political elements determined to sow confusion, create distraction, and provoke internal crisis within the SDP.
“However, they will fail, as our members remain resolute, our leadership firm, and our direction clear”, the Special Adviser pointed out.
“The general public is hereby advised to disregard any congratulatory messages, press statements, or meetings associated with this fake appointment. Such actions do not reflect the position of the SDP and are not authorized by the national or state leadership.
“The Social Democratic Party remains focused, united, and committed to delivering a strong and credible alternative to Nigerians. As we continue to gain the trust of the people, we will not be distracted by impostors and agents of disunity.
“We reaffirm our readiness and strategic preparation towards victory in the 2027 general elections and pledge to defend the integrity of our party against any internal or external sabotage”, the statement averred.
