Security agencies in Oyo State on Tuesday embarked on a joint show of force in Ibadan metropolis, ahead of the planned nationwide protest. The security agencies comprised the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigerian Army. Others were the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, State Security Services, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service and Amotekun Corps. The operatives of the FCT police command, Monday arrested one Rahimat Salaum in connection to the killing of her husband. Salaum was arrested at Pegi at about 6pm on Monday July 29, 2024. The police said the arrest was made following a credible intelligence. The police said "The suspect was attempting to flee with the belongings of the partially paralysed husband and had been reportedly missing for about three days in a mini truck when police operatives swooped in and apprehended her. The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ayodele Sonubi, says the command is ready to provide adequate protection to peaceful and lawful protesters. Mr Sonubi stated this on Monday in Ibadan during a stakeholders’ meeting on the command’s preparedness towards the planned nationwide protest slated for August 1. The meeting was attended by religious leaders, traditional rulers, transport unions, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, among others. The Borno police command, on Sunday, said two lives were lost as its men repelled an attack by Boko Haram terrorists at Jakana police barracks in Konduga Local Government Area of the State. The command’s public relations officer, ASP Nahun Daso, who confirmed the incident in a statement released in Maiduguri said that the attack took place in the early hours of Sunday.
