21 Alleged Drug Dealers Arrested With 28,622kg Of Heroin, Canadian Loud, Others- NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Special Area command, Tincan Island Port, has arrested 21 suspected drug traffickers and intercepted 28,622.389kg of illicit drugs. The agency’s narcotics commander, Mohammed Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos on Thursday. Mr Abubakar said the arrests and interceptions were from January 2024 to June 2024. He said 14 arrested suspects had been on trial before the Federal High Court, Lagos Division. “Seizures of approximately 28,622.389 kilogrammes of various illicit drugs, including cannabis indica or Canadian loud weighing 2,232.999 kilogrammes, were made,” he said. The speaker of the Oyo House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, said on Thursday that no lawmaker would be suspended over an allegation of working against the assembly’s leadership. Cletus Shurkuk, Plateau’s Commissioner for Health, says the state has not recorded any cholera cases. In a statement on Monday, Mr Shurkuk said that despite the ongoing outbreak in 30 other states, Plateau had yet to record any cases, as the two suspected cases reported tested negative for cholera. Mr Shurkuk urged the public to inculcate the act of hand washing with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitisers and boil their water before drinking it if it was not from a safe source. The Lagos Division of the Federal High Court has acquitted ex-Lagos House of Assembly speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji and his former aide, Oyebode Atoyebio, of a 54-count money laundering charge.Delivering judgment, Justice Mohammed Liman held that the prosecution failed to discharge the burden of proof placed on it by the provisions of the law. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Messrs Ikuforiji and Atoyebi with a 54-count charge of laundering N338.8 million. It accused Mr Ikuforiji of using his position as the speaker to misappropriate funds belonging to the Assembly. The EFCC alleged that the defendants committed the offences from April 2010 to July 2011. They had each pleaded not guilty and were allowed to continue on an earlier bail granted to them in 2012...
