Pastor Yahaya Buntu, the cleric who was killed about two weeks ago by suspected Boko Haram gunmen in Bajoga town, Gombe State, was laid to rest on Thursday.
Also buried were 10 other worshippers shot dead at the Deeper Life Bible Church in Gombe.
Speaking at the combined funeral ceremony held in honour of the deceased at the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Centre in Gombe on Thursday, the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr. Tha’anda Rubainu, reminded Christians of their covenant with Christ to love their enemies.
“Those who died were victims of crimes against humanity; they were murdered in cold blood while worshiping their Creator. “They had played their roles in the mortal world and gone to be with the Lord.“
Rubainu said that those who committed the crime would not only receive earthly judgment but would also face the wrath of God.
“We will do everything humanly possible to bring to book those that committed the crime,“ Rubainu said.
Rev. Abare Kalla, the Chairman of CAN in the state, charged Christians not to be ignorant of what was happening.
“What is happening to Christians will continue to happen because it is a sign of the end of the times which the Bible tells us about.”
Rev. Shuaibu Byal, the Chairman of North East Zone of CAN, said that Christians were not happy with what was happening in the zone, and would seek God’s intervention.
In his speech, Mr. Maneseh Ejose, the Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state, said that corps members in Gombe would continue to give selfless service to the state and the country at large.
He thanked CAN in Gombe for the honour given to Mr. Alade Olarewaju, a corps member who was shot in the Church durng the attack .
