Bombings, Sporadic Shootings Reported in Damaturu

DAMATURU, the capital city of Yobe State in Nigeria was the scene a large explosion followed by scattered shootings on Monday, a day after the cities of Kaduna and Zaira in the sister-northern state of Kaduna were

rocked by similar violent attacks.

 

Although no one has yet claimed responsibility for Monday’s deadly violence in Damaturu, it is believed that the murderous terror group Boko Haram is behind the latest attack which is reported to be around the Sabon Pegi subdivision of the city where Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Geidam resides.

Only this morning, Governor Geidam launched a drive to combat unemployment in Yobe.

The latest violence in Damaturu is coming barely a week after a member of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Deputy Majority leader Adamu Abubakar Degubi, was assassinated by gunmen. Degubi was preparing on Tuesday morning to commute from his home in Tandari in Potiskum to Damaturu when gunmen arrived his residence and killed him as his driver waited for him outside in the car.

Monday attack is ongoing, according to international news wire monitored by sharpedgenews.com from Kansas City, Kansas. Shots from the attackers and members of the government’s Joint Task Force established to combat the menace of violent extremism still renders the air, according to residents of the area.

There is no word yet from the police sources of Yobe State Police Command.
