President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday has finally approved the appointment of Prof. Ibrahim Ayoola Gambari, as his new Chief of Staff (CoS), replacing Alh. Abba Kyari, who succumbed to complications arising from COVID-19.
A lot of speculations had rented Nigeria’s the political firmament sending observers guessing who will be crowned as Kyari’s successor.
Prof. Gambari, no doubt a heavy weight in local and international politics is coming with a lot of experience to help the Buhari Administration pilot the affairs of the country at the present tumultuous period.
With rising challenge of the pandemic, insecurity, dwindling economy and food insecurity the government it seems will be confronting an uphill tasks.
Born in Kwara State, in the early 40s, he was a former Secretary General of the United Nations (UN).
He was also the Minister of External Affairs between 1984 and 1985.
He is also currently the Special Adviser (SA) on international compact with Iraq and other international issues for the Secretary General of the UN for department of Political Affairs.
He is an academic, author, scholar with rich heritage of vast geographical divide and therefore expected to lift the country’s image in global area.
