BREAKING NEWS: Courts Orders NDLEA to Pay Baba Suwe N25m for Wrongful Detention

Ace comedian and Nollywood actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, was earlier on Thursday awarded the sum of 25 million naira by a Lagos High Court for wrongful detention by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency of Nigeria.

The anti-drug agency had detained the Nollywood actor on October 12 and he remained in the agency’s custody for the next 3 weeks without convincing proof of the allegation that he had ingested narcotic drugs in an attempt to smuggle same out of the country.

Justice Yetunde Idowu of the Lagos High Court gave the ruling today in response to a fundamental rights suit filed by Mr. Omidina’s lawyer, Mr. Bamidele Aturu. Mr. Omidina had been on his way to France for a friend’s child dedication.

Justice Idowu had previously ordered the actor released after the Agency had been unable to prove that he had indeed ingested hard drugs in a drug-smuggling attempt.

Today’s court ruling means that Baba Suwe would be having the last laugh on the long-drawn battle between the comedian and the drug law enforcement agency, a development that would no doubt leave his fans cheering for Baba Suwe.
