Breaking News: Nigerian Music Sensation, Fatai Rolling Dollar, Dies at 87

POPULAR Nigerian highlife musician, Pa Fatai Olayiwola Olagunju, popularly known as Fatai Rolling Dollar, is dead.

He was 87 years old.

 

According to reports reaching us at sharpedgenews.com, the guitar icon died after his health condition deteriorated upon his recent return from a performance tour of the United States. He was treated for lung infection and fatigue in his legs.

Mr. Olagunju said he was born in Isale-Eko, in an area known as Abegede in the heart of Lagos on July 22, 1926, according to a recorded interview heard on Spotify, an online music-streaming facility monitored by sharpedgenews.com in Kanas City, Kansas.

He passed his standard six examinations in 1944 at St. Patrick’s School along Reclamation Road, also in Lagos.

He learned his vocation as an artiste under the tutelage of equally popular musicians as Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, the late Orlando Owoh and Bob Aladeniyi.

All through his life, Fatai Rolling dollar made music, and is most famed for the hit song that revived his career a few years ago, ‘Won Kere Si Number Wa’.

Until his death today, Rolling Dollar was the oldest active Nigerian musician. He was one of the pioneers of Juju music genre in Nigeria.
