Prominent Opposition Political Strategists in Ondo State Have Gone into Hibernation following rising anxiety that they may be targeted for arrests
ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Sources told Sharpedgenews on Friday that the research and strategy committee of the Peoples Democratic Party was tipped off by intelligence links that key members of the Eyitayo Jegede campaign organization were marked down to be”taken out of circulation until the election was over and results announced”.
The sources, for anonymity because of the sensitivity of the disclosure, said that the party’s candidate, Mr Eyitayo Olayinka Jegede, was the person who was directly briefed. Jegede, according to one of the sources, has immediately swung into action to keep his associates out of danger.
The ruling party, All progressives Congress, APC, is being accused as the Mastermind of the plot.
It was further alleged that some security agencies may have signed up to play along in the strategy that feels below the expected integrity of the Electoral process.
Already the veracity of the claim to being security agents is in doubt as some of the personnel deployed to provide security spot beards, men wear braided hair in official uniforms, practices that are exceptions to the service conventions in Nigeria.
An official who gave the details of the envisaged arrests, explained that intimidating voters in areas where the ruling APC may not enjoy strong support.
The official said that the possibility of bloody killings were dropped, although considered an option initially.
The source further discloses that the option of massive arrest of opposition politicians and persons put in charge of funds and logistics for mobilization is the strategy that has been endorsed.
The police spokesmen for Ondo State command, Mr Ikoro, did not pick calls placed to him for an official reaction to the developing situation.
However, an intelligence source explained to Sharpedgenews that the Outlook of some of the security personnel is a reflection of contemporary Nigeria.
