President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday lived up to his promise as he in the early hours of the day announced a full fledged Executive Council of 43 Ministers.
The announcement did not trigger the spontaneous excitement that it generated in November 2015 when the portfolios were allocated to the then ministers.
Away from what obtained in 2015, the Mnistries of Police Affairs and Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development are now full fledged ministries standing on their own.
Also carved from Works and Housing is Power ministry which was hitherto headed by Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN, at the administration’s first tenure. Also, the Aviation ministry has been de-merged from it’s hitherto Transport ministry under which it operated.
Observers who spoke to Sharpedgenews on the announcement applauded the President for making the police ministry stand on it’s own. The decision may have been informed by the escalating security challenges, the country is grappling with.
The Power ministry which analysts say is the engine room of industrialization was also de-merged from Works and Housing. This has become expedient considering the dilapidated state of the electricity generation and supply across the country. Nigeria’s electricity distribution is still below 5000MWs.
While Special Duties, used to be a stand alone ministry during former President Goodluck Jonathan era, it now rebirthed into a full fledged ministry to assist the president handles some knotty intra ministterial overlapping, zakzaky our Rreporter gathered.
