Buhari Writes Senate, Reappoints Emefiele as CBN Gov

By Frank Momoh

In what political and financial analysts will regard as landmark appointment, President Muhammadu Buhari, braved the odds on Thursday

to write the National Assembly (NASS) Senate, seeking the reappointment of Mr. Godwin Emiefele as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Emiefele’s tenure as governor of the apex is expected to come to an end in June 2, after 4 years of engagement by the immediate past President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

While rumour rented the air some few weeks back that the CBN helmsman has been sent on retirement and compulsory leave, Emiefele like the cat with nine lives bounced back to the saddle with a renewed drive for populist idealism in the sector.

The banking industry was abuzz with varying Northern names of would be Emiefele’s successor because of the humongous power the CBN governor wields.

Earlier today, the Senate President read Buhari’s letter on the floor of the House shortly before the adjournment of plenary.
