WAPP Rues COVID-19 Impact on Electricity, Holds 48th Board Meeting in Togo

By Dele Ogbodo As part of the ongoing 15th Session of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) General Assembly for the year, WAPP has held its 48th WAPP Executive Board Meeting in Lome, Republic of Togo on the 9th of December. The assembly was chaired by the new WAPP Chairman and Ag. MD/CEO of TCN, Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz. Declaring the meeting opened, the Chairman noted that the power sector has been significantly impacted by the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, leading to, in most cases, a reduction in electricity demand, financial stress and other disruptions. He, however, commended the high level of work accomplished by WAPP inspite of the pandemic. NDDC: Effiong Akwa Takes Over From IMC as Interim Administrator

By Dayo Omoogun President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Effiong Okon Akwa as the Interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission taking over from the Interim Management Committee. According to the press statement signed by Femi Adesina, Akwa who until the appointment was the Acting Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Commission, is to be in office for the duration of the forensic audit. Akwa, a chartered accountant and lawyer, is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN) and a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
