Army: IPOB-ESN Terrorists Attacked Isheke Police Station, Five Killed

The Nigerian Army says its troops deployed for counter-terrorism operations in Ebonyi on Thursday repelled an attack by suspected IPOB terrorists on Isheke Police Station, killing five terrorists. This was disclosed in a statement by army spokesman Onyema Nwachukwu on Thursday. Mr Nwachukwu said the attack on the police station resulted in the torching of the facility and several vehicles. The Defence Headquarters says the troops of the armed forces have killed 2,245 terrorists, apprehended 3,682 terrorists and criminal elements and rescued 1,993 kidnapped hostages between April and June.In the South-East, Buba said the troops of Operation UDO KA conducted a “rigorous” clearance operation across the theatre to frustrate the activities of the IPOB/ESN group and maintain peace in the region. Court Discharges Ex-Lagos Speaker Ikuforiji Of Money Laundering Charge

The Lagos Division of the Federal High Court has acquitted ex-Lagos House of Assembly speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji and his former aide, Oyebode Atoyebio, of a 54-count money laundering charge.Delivering judgment, Justice Mohammed Liman held that the prosecution failed to discharge the burden of proof placed on it by the provisions of the law. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Messrs Ikuforiji and Atoyebi with a 54-count charge of laundering N338.8 million. It accused Mr Ikuforiji of using his position as the speaker to misappropriate funds belonging to the Assembly. Man Jailed 12 Months For Drug Trafficking

A Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted and sentenced a 30-year-old man, Omonile Akinbaye, to a term of 12 months in the correctional service for drug trafficking. After the conviction, Mr Akinbaye incoherently told the court, “No send me to jail, allow me to go to my house.” The defendant was arraigned before Justice Friday Ogazi on a one-count charge of unlawful dealing in hemp. Mr Akinbaye, who had no legal representation, pleaded guilty to the charge. Fire Outbreak: Canadian Embassy Suspends Operations In Nigeria 

The Canadian High Commission in Abuja on Tuesday suspended operations after a fire incident at the embassy on Monday. No staff except security personnel were seen at the embassy at 13010G, Palm Close, Diplomatic Drive, in the Central Business District of Abuja. The high commission had, on its official X platform, announced the temporary suspension of its operations after a section of the embassy in Abuja was gutted by fire.
