Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima have been sworn in as the president and vice-president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. They are the 16th president and 14th vice-president of Africa’s most populous country. They were sworn in on Monday at the Eagle Square in the federal capital territory (FCT). Buhari departs Eagle Square for Abuja  airport enroute Daura

The immediate past President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has departed the Eagle Square, Abuja for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, enroute his home town, Daura, Kastina State. Buhari left immediately Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima were sworn-in  as President and Vice President on Monday. Before his departure, Buhari formally handed over  flags to the new president. Buhari had  a dinner in the State House Banquet Hall on Sunday, bid Nigerians bye bye. He said he would  retire to his hometown to take care of his cows. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the outgoing legislator (Kano Municipal), Sha’aban Sharada, as executive secretary of the newly established National Commission for Almajiri. The president’s media aide Garba Shehu confirmed this on Sunday night. Mr Shehu said Mr Sharada’s appointment followed the president’s assent to the National Commission for Almajiri and Out of School Children Education Bill 2023. Mr Sharada has a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano and a master of Business Administration from the University of Chichester, United Kingdom.

Eagle Square, the venue for the 2023 Presidential inauguration has been given a facelift. The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the 5000 sitting capacity venue had undergone some level of  renovation in the build up to the inauguration, which would hold in less than 24 hours. NAN reports that the venue had been adorned with Nigerian flags and flags of other countries, while some parts had been repainted. On May 26, 2023, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) prevented an alleged attempt by two women to sell a two-month-old baby. According to Lagos state police command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the deal was exposed in Oshodi, with 25-year-old Oge Okolie - the intermediary between the baby's mother and a prospective buyer - suspected of stealing the baby. Witnesses on a public bus noticed the baby's continuous crying, questioning why Okolie couldn't breastfeed the child if she was the biological mother.
