Tinubu: Judiciary Should Expect More Reforms

President Bola Tinubu says there will be more reforms in the country’s judiciary. The president said court orders that truncate democracy will no longer be allowed. Tinubu spoke on Monday during his maiden Democracy Day speech as president. The president said he is determined to give the country a “vibrant judiciary that can be trusted to deliver justice and strengthen institutions”. It has become imperative to state here that the unnecessary illegal orders used to truncate or abridge democracy will no longer be tolerated,” he said. “The recent harmonization of the retirement age for judicial officers is meant to strengthen the rule of law, which is a critical pillar of democracy. The reform has just started.”

NDLEA Intercepts UK-bound Skunk In Native Black Soap, Tramadol Pills In Women’s Hair

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of 3.20kg skunk concealed in native black soap heading to the United Kingdom. In a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, said the drugs were intercepted at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos on Wednesday. He said a freight agent involved in the attempt to export the illicit drug was arrested. President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect. This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy, according to a statement on Friday by the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey. According to the statement, Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the CBN governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms. The CBN listed the Deputy Director, Operations Directorate, as Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi.
