The Naval Headquarters has dismissed as false, the allegation that the outgoing Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Awwal Gambo, had refused to handover to the newly appointed chief, Rear Adm. Enugu residents frown at proposed electricity tariff hike

Residents of Enugu have expressed concern over the proposed 40 per cent hike in electricity tariff, beginning July 1. The residents spoke on the issue in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday. A 30-year-old farmer, Musa Maikasuwa was on Wednesday remanded in prison for allegedly stealing his friend’s motorcycle. 102 Nigerians Stranded In Libya Evacuated, Arrive In Lagos

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Lagos received 102 stranded Nigerians evacuated from Libya. The returnees were officially received on Wednesday by Mustapha Ahmed, director-general of NEMA, on behalf of the federal government. According to a statement by the agency, of the 102 returnees, 96 were females, two males and four infants. Journalist jailed 3 years for N10.2m fraud

A Wuse Zone II Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, sentenced a journalist, Sanusi Inuwa, to three years in prison for N10.2 million fraud. Inuwa, 47, claims to be the publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Daily Focus newspaper. The court imposed the sentence after finding Inuwa guilty of defrauding one Mr Hamza Galadima of the said amount. Magistrate Folashade Oyekan held that the police, who prosecuted the case, proved it beyond reasonable doubt.
