Five-time Olympian Offiong Edem Calls For Functional Table Tennis League In Nigeria

Offiong Edem, a five-time Olympian and Nigerian table tennis star, has called for a functional table tennis league in the country to enable players to prevail in international competitions. She said this in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the ongoing ‘Fourth Offiong Edem Table Tennis Competition’. The competition is being held in the Canaan City Table Tennis Hall, UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar. According to her, it will be difficult for the nation’s table tennis players to compete favourably outside the country without a functional league at home. Ondo Govt Releases N1 Billion For Payment Of Retired LG Workers, Teachers’ Gratuities

The Ondo State government has released N1 billion for the payment of arrears of gratuities of local government workers and primary school teachers who retired in 2012. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, stated this on Saturday while speaking to reporters in Akure. Mr Takuro said the gesture was a continuation of the gradual defrayment of gratuity arrears for retired local government officers and primary school teachers. 14.64 Million Foreigners Visited China Following Relaxed Visa Policies- Immigration Authority

China recorded 14.64 million inbound trips made by foreigners in the first half of this year, up 152.7 per cent year on year, following measures introduced since January, the country’s immigration authority announced on Friday. The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has said the agency has no evidence that genetically modified foods are safe for human consumption. Genetically modified foods are foods produced from organisms (Genetically Modified Organisms) that have had changes introduced into their DNA using the methods of genetic engineering as opposed to traditional cross breeding.
