TCN Says Nation’s Grid Restored after Collapse

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Thursday said the nation’s power grid had been fully restored as at 4:59 PM on Wednesday the 28th after a grid collapse which occurred at about 12:20 pm the same day. TCN admitted that the collapse was triggered by a sudden drop in system frequency to 47.21Hz. Mrs. Ndidi Mba, General Manager, Public Affairs for the Company, in a statement said, reports received from SCADA and other power generating stations showed that at about 12:20 pm, two generating units tripped in one generating station while four equally tripped in another generating station, causing a loss of 261MW and 350MW respectively, bringing the total loss of electricity on the grid to 611MW. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kuje Unit Command, Federal Capital Territory has called on motorists with temporary drivers’ licenses in the area to pick up the permanent ones.
