The Jesus Praise Evangelical Ministries International (JPEMI) Abuja said it would be feeding 100 poor people weekly and train some of them to be self reliant.
Dr Femi Lanre-Oke, Lead Pastor of the church said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday.
He said that the programme tagged Operation Feed the Poor, would target poor and vulnerable people in communities around the church.
“We intend to help the poor in the community through the programme; JPEMI is targeting feeding at least 100 people every Sunday,” he added.
According to him, life has been very difficult for most people in the country since the COVID-19 lockdown, as such the intervention is to ease the pains for vulnerable in the society.
The cleric urged those with the means to support others to be part of solving the numerous problems in communities around them.
“The Word of God is the motivation behind the programme, the Word of God encourages giving to the poor which connotes giving to God.
“This is our own little way of contributing to our society;
we also give scholarships to children who are unable to pay their school fees.
“We are starting with the communities around the church, but we hope to go beyond the immediate community we are working with now,” Lanre-Oke said.
The pastor said that the target is to feed 500,000 poor people over time.
”We also do an empowerment skill at intervals, with this skills empowerment, we help people start up their businesses.
“There are times we pay school fees, WAEC registration and all, it is part of our ways of contributing to the society.”
The pastor also said that the church had provided furniture to the local police station in the area and plan to provide equipment for the local hospital where the church is located.
On the forthcoming general elections, he assured Nigerians that God’s will will prevail.
“It won’t be like previous years. My advice is for Nigerians particularly since I am addressing Christians, to vote for the people they believe God can use.
“People who are competent, with good character, and have the capacity; he must not be your ethnic or tribal person, we are one in Christ.
“If we believe that God is choosing this person to rule, and we believe he has the competence, capacity and character to do Gods will, then we should allow it,” he said.
Lanre-Oke advised Christians to be focused and fervent in making decisions for the year. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
