An investigation carried out by the verification committee of the Zamfara State Primary Education Board has revealed that a securityman collected N8 million as salary in five months.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Alhaji Murtala Jangebe dislosed this at the stakeholders’ meeting on education in the state.
He said the security guard, who was serving at a primary school in Maradun on Grade Level 02, was used by some officials as a conduit to siphon the money.
According to Jangebe, the money was removed from the government coffers between August and December in 2011 and that only N8,000 went to the securityman from the deal.
The executive secretary noted that between June and December in 2011, the board also discovered that 1,500 teachers were unofficially recruited and had been on different salary levels.
He said that another primary school in Mafara was also found to be existing in two different records with the staff members receiving their monthly salaries.
Jangebe said the board has yet to ascertain where such monies went to.
He commended the state government for instituting the Primary Schools Verification committee which was composed of over 50 members, including six professors, 11 PhD holders and 23 lecturers from various tertiary institutions.
The stakeholders meeting was well attended, with the State Commissioner for Animal Health, Alhaji Ibrahim Arzika, representing the governor.
