Convener urges Tinubu to avoid a pile on fiscal policy to stem negative resistance of the populace

Chief Mrs Raliat Anako Abdulsalam. The convener of women empowerment and career access network WECAN, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration to quicken the provision of palliatives to the masses to help cushion the the hardship on the oil subsidy removal before embracing more policies which will further increase the hardship.

Abdulsalam, who made the call in a press statement issued in Abuja, said the, oil subsidy removal was having serious hardship and negative impact on the people, saying “Then comes the 7.5% VAT on diesel? And possibly 40% increase on electricity tariffs, hence the need to provide adequate palliatives was paramount.

The Convener said, the President should try to curb the effects on petrol subsidy removal before slamming the common man with his policies, adding that slowly but surely wins the race.

According to her, with the recent subsidy removal on petrol, the common man and average Nigerian is still reeling from the effects of that policy.

“As much as am applauding our President BAT on the measures he put in place to strengthen our economy in a very short time and also all the policies and appointments he has made thus far.

“Am going to have to say a few things as regards the common man. All these fiscal policies are spot on, but here are my thoughts.

“With the recent subsidy removal on petrol the common man ie average Nigerian is still reeling from the effects of that policy, but as usual as a Nigerian we are ready to persevere as it is for a common good for all.

“Can we pls Mr President sir, firstly, try to curb the effects on petrol subsidy removal before slamming the common man with the above?

“Pls what are the palliatives put in place?
The average Nigerian is already struggling. We all understand that our economy is in a mess.

“We know we need stringent measures to improve it. But slamming it on us almost at the same time will cripple the common man, most of which are civil servants, unemployed or small/ medium business owners and of cause subsistent farmers.

“President sir, pls slowly but surely wins the race. Pls can you kindly introduce palliatives, remove insecurity so that the much needed investment in our economy can create employment, improve the currency etc.

“And also kindly reduce the cost of governance and then all these other measures of strengthening the economy can follow.”Pls once again Slowly but Surely wins the race,” she said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
