The president yesterday ordered the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to probe all top government officials
accused of corruption and prosecute any found guilty.
This was contained in a two- paragraph statement issued yesterday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
The statement read, “The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to a number of reports in the media, in which various accusations of corruption have been levelled against some top officials in the administration.
“In that regard, President Buhari has instructed the Attorney General of the Federation to investigate the involvement of any top government official accused of any wrongdoing. If any of them are liable, they will not escape prosecution.”
Though no name was mentioned in the letter, it is believed that this may be in connection with recent revelations by the senate in which they alleged the SGF of complicity in contract award in the IDP camps in the North-East which Mr. Babachir Lawal has so far denied.
Another issue is the rejection of the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu’s confirmation following a security report by the DSS indicting Mr. Magu.
Nigerians are patiently waiting to see how the president will handle all these allegations especially with his zero tolerance for corruption campaign
