Court remands farmer over alleged motorcycle theft

A 30-year-old farmer, Musa Maikasuwa was on Wednesday remanded in prison for allegedly stealing his friend’s motorcycle.

The Judge, Abdulsalam Abubakar of New Karu Chief Magistrates Upper Court, sitting in Nasarawa State, ordered that the defendant be remanded until July 3 to determine his bail condition and for further investigation.

The defendant, a resident of Kapa, Karu, Nasarawa State, is being tried for criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and theft, offence he denied committing.

The prosecutor, Insp Christian Michael, told the court that sometime in May, the defendant collected a Boxer Bajaj motorcycle from one Friday Bahago of same address with him.

“The defendant collected the motorcycle with pretence to go to Aso, Mararaba and withdraw some money.

“However, when the complainant decided to go to the defendant’s house, having waited the whole day without trace of him nor the motorcycle, discovered that the motorcycle was nowhere to be found.

“When the complainant confronted the defendant about his motorcycle, he claimed he handed the said motorcycle to one Usman, now at large,” Michael told the court.

The prosecutor further told the court that in the course of investigation, the defendant could not give satisfactory account of the said motorcycle.

He said that the offence contravened sections 97, 312 and 287 of the Penal Code.
