The Lagos State Command on enforcement of COVID-19 preventive meadures on Sunday said that it had in the last two weeks arrested 1,872 violators.
The suspects were charged to Mobile Court by the Command’s legal team at the State CID Yaba. The 1,833 accused persons, the Operative said pleaded guilty to the one count charge and were convicted.
The remaining 39 accused persons pleaded not guilty and were remanded in Police custody till the next adjourned date for hearing.
483 vehicles were impounded, out of which 398 are private vehicles, while 85 are commercial vehicles. 20 out of the commercial vehicles impounded are intercepted along the boundary communities on non essential interstates travel with 152 passengers who were equally arrested and charged to Court.
DSP, Elkanah Bala, in a statement made available to SHARPEDGENEWS, however, said the Command succeeded in impounding 704 Motorcycles for violating the suspension order on commercial motorcycles issued by the Governor.
He said 73 tricycles were impounded for violating the curfew, adding that a 50 year old man was charged for raping and defining his daughter for 8 years in Ikotun.
He said: “On 09/05 at about 14. 30 hours, a 45 years old woman (name withheld) reported at Ikotun Police Station that her husband, Ede Tyndale 50 years old of Kajola Street, Ikotun is committing incest with their 19 years old daughter (name withheld). Trouble started when the woman noticed some strange behaviours from her daughter and decided to find out why the sudden disrespect towards her father.
The survivor opened up to her mother that her father started having sexual intercourse with her when she was 11 years old. That he often threatened violence whenever she resist him. That the father instilled so much fear in her that she finds it difficult to report to anybody. The suspect was arrested by detectives from the Family Support Unit.
The father confessed to the commission of the crime. After a thorough investigation into the case, the suspect was on 11th, charged to Chief Magistrate Court ll Ogba on five count charges of Incest, rape, sexual harassment, defilement and sexual assault.
Also, Elkanah, said two fake/deserted soldiers arrested in connection with the murder of a Police Sergeant in Ilemba Hausa
on Saturday at about 1500 hours, detectives from Ilemba Hausa Police Station arrested one Kehinde Elijah, 45 years old of Ibiyeye Street, Whitehouse Bus Stop Okokomaiko.
He is among three suspects on Police wanted list for violent crimes. Four pairs of military fatigues were recovered from his house.
He claimed to have deserted the military in 2015 when he was deployed to the North east to fight insurgency.
He has been in Ojo area since then, where he has been terrorizing members of the public. The second suspect, Ezeh Frank Joseph was arrested in his apartment at Imude Pako Area, Era road, Ajangbadi on Saturday, at about 0600 hours .
He claimed to have deserted the military also while undergoing basic military training.
They were arrested in respect of the shooting and killing of Police Sergeant Onalaja Onajide attached to Ilemba Hausa Division.
The shooting incident happened on 10/5/2020 at about 2140hours, when unknown gunmen fired gunshots at the Divisional Police Officer, Ilemba Hausa and the Station Guard, Sergeant Onalaja Onajide. The DPO survived the gunshots but the Station Guard died from the pellets wound. Investigation led to the arrest of the two.
The first suspect was earlier at the Station to solicit the release of his motorcycle which was impounded by the Police for violating the ban on the use of commercial Motorcycles.
Not happy with the DPOs refusal to release the motorcycle to him, he decided to launch the deadly attack. Investigation is ongoing. The suspects will soon be charged to Court.
