By Sylvester Thompson

An organisation, Nigerians United for Tinubu/Shettima(NUFTS), has called on political parties especially the opposition to refrain from making inciting comments that would heat up the polity.

Ango Suleiman, Leader of the NUFTS said this at a news briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.

“The 2023 general elections in Nigeria had come and gone, so as a nation, we have a duty to come together and build a prosperous and united Nigeria.

“We recognise that these elections were not without their challenges, there were a few areas where we can still do better.

“We understand that in every competitive exercise, there may be some grievances and concerns from various parties.o

“However, it is important to note that there are laid down procedures to seek redress,’’ Suleiman said.

The NUFTS leader also called on all aggrieved persons and parties to explore those avenues, avoid resorting to violence or any act and utterances that may likely disrupt the peace of the country.

Suleiman urged that all political parties should accept the outcome of the election in good faith and support the incoming government in its efforts to build a prosperous and united Nigeria.

He said it was important for all political leaders to recognise that they have a role to play in building a stable and peaceful nation.

Suleiman added that in this regard, they must therefore act responsibly and with restraint at all times.

“We have noted with utmost dismay and disappointment that some people are trying to ferment trouble and disturb the peace that we currently enjoy as recently alerted by the Department of State Police (DSS).

“We use this medium to call on all such persons to desist and retrace their steps in order not to disturb the peace and unity of the nation or encroach on the rights of other law abiding citizens,’’ he said.

Suleiman also urged the opposition parties to channel their grievances and concerns through the appropriate legal and democratic processes.

He urged all well-meaning Nigerians to continue to remain law abiding, trust in the processes and institutions of the state towards building a better Nigeria.
