Yakubu Ventim, Jos

The family of a deceased Nigerian citizen, Salisu Badamasi, has petitioned the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, over

an alleged extra-judicial killing of Badamosi.

The family, through their counsel, Mr. Akib Idris, in the petition, is demanding for a conduct of comprehensive investigation on the circumstances that led to the killing of their ‘son’, Badamosi, who was alleged to have been killed by the men of Ogun State Command of the Customs Service at Ogere on January 15, this year.

According to the petition dated 18/03/2016, the Custom men had unjustifiably collected N400,000 from Badamosi and his co-traveller, Adamu Sani, client over some goods they had earlier seized from the two traders who were molested on their way from Lagos to Jos.

They reportedly opened fire on the two men after collecting the bribe from them, killing Badamosi instantly while Sani sustained life-threatening injuries.

The petitioner said the conduct of the Customs men were, apart from committing blue murder, were also guilty of flagrant violation of the fundamental rights of the two persons.

He is thus demanding for the, “punishment of those officers that had participated in the act, restraining of the customs men and officers from further harassing, arresting and forcefully extorting money from innocent Nigerians.

“The families of the attacked men further demand payment of the sum of five hundred million Naira as compensation to the families of Salisu Badamasi and Adamu Sani, whose innocent blood is crying for justice.

“The petitioners are also demanding  that the Comptroller-General should direct the refund of the four hundred thousand Naira earlier extorted by men of the Custom services and bring those who committed the offence of murder to justice.

“They should also publish an unreserved public apology in at least two national dailies,” the counsel demanded.
