Defense Chief Makes Case for Rooting Out Boko Haram Members

Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin, the Chief of Defence Staff, has said the menace of the Boko Haram sect must be brought to an end.

Petinrin made the remark in Abuja on Friday night at a reception for retiring officers at the Defence Headquarters.

He said the involvement of all Nigerians was critical in the war against “this mindless terrorism”.

“I therefore charge those of you leaving us not to abandon the fight as there is no doubt that we need your expertise and experience, especially in the area of intelligence gathering

“ For those of us who still have the privilege to be in service, the year has just begun and the challenges are enormous.

“Let us redouble our efforts towards meeting the challenges ahead just as we have done in the past.’’

The CDS said he was determined to bequeath a “thoroughly” transformed armed forces which capacity, competence and professionalism will meet the aspirations and obligation of the nation.

“I am confident that I can count on you as we continue to consolidate on the success that we have so far achieved.’’

Petinrin said the retirees had put in many years of unblemished contribution to the nation and left their mark in their chosen field.

The Minister of Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed, wished the retiring officers well in their future endeavour.

Mohammed, who was represented by the Minister of State for Defence, Mrs Olusola Obada, said the officers had served the nation meritoriously.

“They are leaving the service with unblemished record to face the future.

“To our serving officers, I implore you to rededicate yourselves to serve the nation.

“The armed forces of Nigeria are very unique; we have officers who rank amongst the very best in the world.

“I am always very proud of the professionalism and high standard of our men and women in uniform.
